# Presentations and diagrams

> Ask an agent for a deck or a diagram and you get an editable artifact in the chat, not a flat image. Both export, and diagrams have a canvas you can draw on.

Two of the things an agent makes are worth knowing about on their own, because
neither is a picture. A presentation and a diagram both arrive in the chat as
something you can open, change, and send onward.

## Presentations

Ask an agent for a deck and it writes one: slides with real text and layout,
sharing one visual theme across the deck. On a computer, clicking it in the
chat opens it in the artifacts panel beside the conversation, where you can
scroll through the slides; the deck's name at the top of the panel, or any
slide, takes it full screen. On a phone it opens full screen.

Editing happens a slide at a time, which is also how you should ask for
changes. "Redo slide 4 as a comparison table" is a request an agent can act on
precisely; "make the deck better" makes it rewrite more than you wanted. You
can keep iterating in the same conversation and the deck updates in place
rather than arriving again as a new copy.

A deck can also start from one you already have. Share a PowerPoint file into
the chat and ask an agent to work from it.

Decks live with the chat's other files and can be downloaded. See [Files](https://bolter.chat/help/files) for
where they land and how to get one out.

## Diagrams

A diagram is a canvas, and it has two authors. The agent writes the diagram as
text, which is what makes it good at flowcharts, sequences and architecture
sketches. You see a drawing canvas, and anything you move, restyle or add is
saved as you go.

That split has one consequence worth remembering: once you have edited the
canvas by hand, your version is the real one. If you then ask the agent to
regenerate the whole diagram from its text, it will check with you first,
because doing it would discard what you drew. Asking for a specific change
instead of a regeneration avoids the question entirely.

You can also bring a diagram in from elsewhere by sharing an Excalidraw file
into the chat.

## Getting them out

A diagram exports as PNG or SVG with the drawing embedded, which means the file
you export can be opened and edited again rather than being flat. It also
exports as an Excalidraw file. A diagram the agent wrote in Mermaid can also be
exported as its Mermaid text, as an `.mmd` file. That file is the Mermaid the
agent wrote, so changes made by hand on the canvas are not in it. A diagram that exists only as
a drawing has no text to export.

Version history works for documents and presentations. For diagrams it is not
available yet: the canvas has no preview to show you, so there is nothing
useful to pick between. Your edits are still saved, they just cannot be
browsed as versions.
